This cranberry sauce adds a kick, but it’s not overpowering. Fresh, bitter cranberries are sweetened while baked in sugar, spiced with cinnamon, and given a tang with lemon zest.
Great with your turkey dinner, this sauce can also be an awesome spread on sandwiches or toast. Mix with one part mayo for a great cranberry mayonnaise spread!
Thanks to Steve placing at the Harvest 5K Trail Run/Walk at Tihonet Village, we got some free, fresh cranberries! Our section of Massachusetts is full of cranberry farms and this is the season where they’re flooded and harvested.
- 12oz fresh cranberries
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup whiskey
- 1 teaspoon fresh lemon zest
- 1 cinnamon stick
Preheat the oven to 350F. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl. Then add the cranberry mix to a small casserole dish or pan. Bake 50-60 minutes, until the berries barely hold their form. If you taste it and don't get the whiskey kick you were looking for, it's not too late! Just add a little more whiskey.
